Self Portrait transfer, 2007

Archival inks on Somerset paper

Paper Size: 76cms x 45cm

Image Size: 52.5mm x 19.5mm

Limited edition of 75

This edition was presented by artist Anne Madden on the occasion of a major retrospective of her work at IMMA on 2007. Rather than a realistic depiction, this portrait attempts to suggest the artist’s persona.  The edition is similar to Madden's canvas works in that a sensitivity of tone, light and colour are all present.  A faint representation of the artist’s features are visible in the symmetrical composition.

Born in London in 1932 to Irish and Anglo-Chilean parents, Anne Madden spent her first years in Chile but was raised in Co. Clare and in London, where she studied at the Chelsea School of Art. Anne Madden has exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions and her work is represented in many public collections. A number of Madden’s works have been acquired by the IMMA Collection, including a recent purchase of a work from her Aurora Borealis series. In 1965 she represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale and exhibited at ROSC '84. Solo exhibitions include RHA Gallagher Galleries, Dublin, 1991; Château de Tours Municipal Art Gallery, France, 1997; Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane, Dublin, 1997; Taylor Galleries, Dublin, 2005, and Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris, 2005
