This digital print by Juan Uslé was created on the occasion of the artists solo exhibition at IMMA in 2004. Based on a series of photographs entitled Luz Aislad, the print is a work of extreme contrast, a pattern filled with rigour and motion, with distinct and shifting weaves of blues.

Born in Santander in 1954, Uslé began painting in the early 1980s. Since then his work has been presented internationally in many important museum and gallery exhibitions. Recent solo exhibitions include Frith Street Gallery, London, 2006; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga, 2007; Valencia Bancaja Headquarters, 2008 and Cheim & Read, New York, 2008. Uslé is more commonly known for his paintings; however his photographic practice runs parallel, and the rhythmic compositions lend themselves to his painterly proficiency. Influenced by ideas ranging from philosophy to multiculturalism, Uslé’s work is not in any way representational; rather it seeks to convey his personal vision of the world. The ‘shell’ may represent aspects of ourselves: a lover, our memories or a place we long to return to.
